How to make apple empanadas with cinnamon. A recipe from Grandma!

In this article we are going to teach you how to make delicious apple empanadas, a typical grandmother’s recipe that she lovingly made for breakfast and snacks. Obviously they will not have exactly the same flavor, but you will get an idea of how to prepare them to make them to your liking.

Now, for this recipe we need empanada covers. These can be homemade, giving us a unique flavor, but since we want it to be as quick as possible, we can choose to buy them at any supermarket in your area.

For these delicious apple empanadas with cinnamon, you will need:

Ingredients

  • 16 Empanada tapas
  • 50 gr. of Manteca
  • 4 Apples (Golden if possible)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. of cinnamon
  • 50 gr. of sugar

Preparation

1- To begin, we peel the apples well and cut them into pieces (we also remove seeds and hard parts).

2- Then we put a frying pan over medium heat and add the butter. When it melts and is somewhat hot, add the apple pieces.

3- We have to stir constantly until they are somewhat golden, at that moment we add the sugar, a pinch of salt and continue stirring.

4- Once the apple has caramelized, add the cinnamon and stir for 1 more minute. We turn off the heat and wait for it to cool to room temperature.

5- We preheat the oven to 200°C.

6- While it is heating up and the filling is somewhat cold, we assemble the empanadas.

7- In a lid we add 1 and a half teaspoons of filling and close them by joining the ends. Then we have the option of making the repulgue or sealing it in another way (such as using a fork) so that the filling does not come out during cooking.

8- We take a dish suitable for oven and grease it well. We place all the empanadas leaving a little margin, since when they are cooked they grow a little and can stick together. Before cooking them, you can brush them with egg yolk and sprinkle a little sugar (this is optional).

9- We send the dish to the oven and wait for them to brown on both sides.

10- Once they are golden brown, we take them out of the oven and wait for them to cool to room temperature.

And that’s it, enjoy these delicious apple and cinnamon empanadas!
