Ingredients
- 1 roll of puff pastry (rectangular)
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- Sesame or poppy seeds (for decoration, optional)
Sweet Fillings (optional)
- Jam or marmalade
- Nutella or other chocolate cream
- Apples cut into small pieces and mixed with sugar and cinnamon
Savory fillings (optional)
- Ham and cheese
- Spinach and ricotta
- Dried tomatoes and mozzarella
- Prepare the puff pastry:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface.
- Cut the squares:
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into squares measuring approximately 6-8cm on each side. You can make larger or smaller squares depending on your preference and type of filling.
- Stuff the squares (optional):
- If you want to fill the squares, place a small amount of filling in the center of half the squares. Make sure not to overdo the filling to prevent it from leaking out during cooking.
- Cover with the remaining squares and seal the edges well by pressing with a fork. Alternatively, you can fold each square in half to form a triangle.
- Brush and decorate:
- In a bowl, beat the egg and brush the surface of the puff pastry squares.
- If desired, sprinkle the squares with sesame or poppy seeds for a decorative touch.
- Cook the squares:
- Arrange the squares on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the squares are puffed and golden.
