Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine (preferably a fruity wine like Tempranillo or Garnacha)
1 orange
1 lemon
1 lime
2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
60 ml of brandy or cognac
300ml soda or sparkling water
- Fruit preparation:
- Wash the orange, lemon and lime well.
- Cut the orange, lemon and lime into thin slices. Save a few slices for final decoration.
- Preparation of sangria:
- Pour the red wine into a large carafe or tureen.
- Add the brandy or cognac and mix well.
- Adding fruit and sugar:
- Add the orange, lemon and lime slices to the wine.
- Add sugar to taste. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Rest and refrigeration:
- Additional Fruit: You can add other fruits like strawberries, blueberries or apples to add extra freshness and color.
- Sugar: If you prefer a less sweet sangria, reduce the amount of sugar or omit it altogether.
- Wine: Choose a red wine that you like to drink on its own, but avoid overly robust or tannic wines that can dominate the other flavors.
- Resting time: Sangria improves with time, so let it rest in the refrigerator to allow the flavors to fully blend.
- Sangria is a versatile drink that lends itself to many variations, so feel free to adapt the recipe according to your personal tastes and guests’ preferences. It is perfect for outdoor parties and dinners during the summer. Health!
- Cover the jug with cling film and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours (preferably overnight) to allow the flavors to mix well.
- Service:
- Before serving, add soda or sparkling water to slightly dilute the sangria and make the drink more fizzy.
- Add ice cubes to the carafe or individual glasses.
- Decoration and final service:
- Garnish each glass of sangria with a slice of orange, lemon or lime.
- Serve the sangria very cold and enjoy it in company!
