Ingredients:
- 1 roll of puff pastry
- 3-4 apples (preferably sweet, such as Golden or Fuji)
- 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- Preparing the Apples:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into thin slices.
- Place the apple slices in a bowl and mix with the sugar, cinnamon (if using) and lemon juice. This will prevent the apples from browning and add flavor.
- Pasta Preparation:
- Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut out circles of dough about 10cm in diameter using a pastry cutter or a glass.
- Place the dough circles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Assembling the Tarts:
- Arrange the apple slices in a radial pattern on each puff pastry circle, leaving a small border all around.
- Beat the egg and lightly brush the edges of the tartlets with the beaten egg to brown them during baking.
- Cooking:
- Bake the tartlets in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Glazing and Finishing:
- If using apricot jam, warm it slightly to make it more runny and gently brush the apples with the warm jam to give them a nice shine.
- Allow the tartlets to cool slightly before dusting with icing sugar, if desired.
- Advice:
- Variation: You can add flaked almonds or chopped walnuts to the apples before baking to add a crunchy texture.
- Serving: These tartlets are delicious served warm, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh cream.
- Apricot jam (optional, for the icing)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
