As expected, with time, use and other factors, the bed mattress begins to get dirty. Here we tell you how to clean a dirty mattress in 8 different ways.
Although it seems like a minor issue, in reality it is not, because bacteria, mites, fungi and all kinds of unwanted guests live in the mattress.
In addition, it is common that over time the mattresses in the home become dirty with moisture, perhaps children’s pee, and age itself.
Therefore, even though we change the sheets every week, there are other issues to pay attention to our mattress, which is so essential for our daily rest.
A study carried out at a University in the United States showed that more than a third of the bacteria that can be found in bed come from our body. Likewise, humidity itself can cause respiratory complications.
Below we will see some homemade and economical tricks to clean and eliminate all types of stains and bad odors:
How to clean a very dirty mattress
With white vinegar
White vinegar is a great ally to combat the most recent mold stains, just by taking a damp cloth where we will spray water, detergent and plenty of vinegar.
Then, we rub a little on the stained area and let it act for a few hours.
This powerful mixture impacts the pH of the mold and eliminates all the bacteria that are in the stain. The good news is that the vinegar does not leave a smell, because it evaporates as a few hours pass.
Baking soda: How to clean a mattress with pee?
It is very common for the mattress to be affected by urine stains, but baking soda can act on the stain by applying it and letting it sit for about 30 minutes.
Once the standing time has elapsed, rub the stain with a sponge with soapy water in proportionate amounts.
Finally, we proceed to clean with a damp cloth and let it dry.
Hydrogen peroxide (Hydrogen peroxide)
For older mold stains we will need about 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon of baking soda, mix well and apply this solution on a toothbrush that we do not use.
Then we rub with the brush until we achieve a foam. To finish, we remove the excess with a slightly damp cloth.
Detergent
On the other hand, blood stains are usually very difficult to remove. We only need 1 product and a lot of patience, we put a little detergent on a damp cloth and apply it to the stain, letting it act.
After approximately 15 minutes, remove the excess detergent with a completely dry rag or cloth. The entire stain may not come out, in fact you can repeat the procedure until it is completely removed.
Homemade mix
It is a highly effective homemade mixture that will help us eliminate various types of stains and also combat bacteria completely.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of pure alcohol
- 3 glasses of white vinegar
- 1 tbsp. of Baking Soda
- 3 tbsp. of Softener
- c7n of Hand Wipes
Procedure:
- First, combine all the ingredients (except the hand wipes) in a wide bowl.
- Next step, we soak a washcloth little by little and rub the entire mattress well, rubbing vigorously in the areas with the most stains.
- When we have finished applying the mixture, we leave the mattress exposed to the sun or in a well-ventilated place.
With lemon
Another of the most complicated stains to remove are those caused by wine. However, a simple combination of ingredients will help us remove it completely.
It involves mixing half a cup of water with the juice of half a lemon, soaking a damp cloth in the liquid solution and proceeding to rub the stain vigorously.
Finally, we let it dry for an hour in a well-ventilated place.
With alcohol
This method is ideal for those who love having pets inside the home, in fact many make them sleep in the bed and they surely leave a strong smell on the mattress.
We can solve it by preparing the following mixture in a spray bottle: add half a glass of ethyl alcohol and half a glass of white vinegar. Then we spray the entire mattress with these combined ingredients and let it dry naturally for 30 minutes.
This is a very effective trick to combat bad animal odors and we can even add a tablespoon of fabric softener to the preparation, the idea is to make it have a more pleasant smell.
With the Vacuum Cleaner
The vacuum cleaner helps a lot to clean dirty and ruined mattresses, for this we will need the following:
- Vacuum cleaner
- c/n Baking soda
- soft brush
Procedure:
We start by sprinkling enough baking soda on the mattress and especially on the stains, there we let it act for about 30 minutes.
When the 30 minutes of rest have passed, we rub it with a brush over the entire surface and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
To finish, we vacuum the entire mattress, its baking soda remains and even the dust left by the stains.
Without a doubt, by following these methods we will obtain a mattress free of dirt and like new!
