The savory Camembert cake is a rich and delicious rustic dish, a scenographic dish also perfect as an edible centerpiece for any festive occasion. Excellent as an appetizer to open a family dinner, it also proves to be an original idea for an aperitif or a standing buffet with friends.
To prepare it, simply unroll the pastry with all its baking paper in a circular pan, place the camembert, a French dairy product with soft paste and flowery rind typical of Normandy, and cover it with the second disc of pastry, pressing to make it adhere well . Once you have brushed the surface with the egg beaten with salt, and seasoned with oregano and pepper, all you have to do is cut many 2 centimeter wide strips, starting from the base of the cheese up to the edges of the mould, and finally weave them together themselves.
The subsequent passage in the oven will make the cheese stringy and meltable, ready to welcome the puff pastry breadsticks, ideal for dipping and nibbling on the tips of your fingers during a special evening. If you like, you can flavor everything with your favorite aromatic herbs , such as rosemary, marjoram, dill or peeled thyme, or enrich the cheese, after cooking, with poppy , flax or pumpkin seeds.
If you can’t find Camembert in the supermarket or in your trusted dairy, you can also opt for Brie , of the same type, or Roquefort , a blue cheese with a stronger and more savory flavour: for an optimal success of the recipe, the important thing is to buy some a whole wheel weighing approximately 250 grams.
