Meatballs with mashed potatoes and sauce

Ingredients for the meatballs:

500 g mixed minced meat (beef and pork)

1 onion, finely chopped

1 egg

2 tbsp breadcrumbs

1 tsp mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Oil for frying

Ingredients for the mashed potatoes:

1 kg potatoes, peeled and cut into pieces

100 ml milk

50 g butter

Salt and nutmeg to taste

Ingredients for the sauce:

250 ml beef broth

200 ml cream

2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp butter

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

First prepare the meatballs. In a bowl, mix the minced meat, chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs, mustard, salt and pepper. Knead the mixture well and form small meatballs.

Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the meatballs on both sides until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Set the meatballs aside.

For the mashed potatoes, boil the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot of water until soft. Drain and then mash with milk, butter, salt and nutmeg until a creamy mash forms.

For the sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour to make a roux. Gradually add the beef stock and cream and stir well until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve the meatballs with the mashed potatoes and pour the sauce over them. Vegetables such as peas, carrots or green beans go well with this.
